FAQ
Are you really kids?
Yes! I'm Wyatt (14) and I live in the mountains of Utah
No, really, did you do this all by yourself?
Of course our parents helped set some of the business stuff up but yes, this was our idea and we've been working really hard to make it work.
What is the process for becoming part of Shrub Nation?
- Complete the application HERE which will ask about your brand, your followers and your parents as well as a list of products that you would like to promote (we offer over 100 products including shirts, hoodies, posters, hats, buttons, stickers and even cool stuff like water bottles). You can select up to 5.
- We will reach out to your parents and explain how this works in terms of payments, ownership of designs and that stuff
- Once approved, we submit your designs to our designers and send them back to you for selection
- We create the initial products
- We send you a special link to your brand on ShrubNation. This is the link that you will promote on your channel because it allows us to measure and share with you how many people are coming to your page.
- Every Friday we will send you (or your parents) the profit share on each product in your collection sold. See product cost and profit share HERE.
- We will help give you some ideas on how to promote your product - everybody wins!
Are these products any good?
Yes! We really looked hard for the best print and merch providers that we could find and have actually sampled most of the products. There are cheaper options but we wanted the highest quality possible.
Do I get input on the designs?
Yes- you will get 2-3 choices of designs created by our designers. We can't go crazy with constant approvals because we are paying real adults real money to develop the designs. As your store grows, you will have a lot of input into future designs.
How long to designs take?
We are getting really good at this part! Once you fill out the design questionnaire (it asks for your brand name, images that you like and preferences for colors), it takes about 2 days for the designers to come up with something for your approval.
Legal Stuff
Do may parents need to know about this?
If you are under 18, yes. Absolutely. We will need to have your parent's permission to set up your art and to sell your goods. Payments will go to them and they will need to compensate you as they see fit (so be nice to them). If your business starts to grow, you should seek independent tax advice. Will I have to pay taxes on my merch?
We aren't lawyers (heck, we aren't even high schoolers). Our understanding is that if you sell enough, then yes, our payouts to you could be taxable as income (just like adults). We will send a "IRS Form 1099" at the end of the year that has all of your earnings on it. Shrub Nation will collect and pay Sales Tax where appropriate.
Do I own my designs?
Any designs created by you will still belong to you, you are granting us a limited license to sell them on your behalf. Designs created by us belong to us. In the sign up process there is a basic license agreement which gives us the right to sell the designs that *we* created up to a certain dollar amount so that we can recover our costs. After that you can rescind your license and part ways with us.
